About the Studio & Instructors

Ohm Yoga Studio offers 20+ group classes a week with an option to practice some of our classes at home virtually. We offer a variety of yoga styles including Vinyasa, Yin, Hatha Beginners, Restorative and more, and we also offer QiGong and Meditation.

We hope you find our teachers to be warm, kind, patient, qualified and helpful. We hope you find Ohm Yoga Studio to be a non-competitive environment, and we encourage all students to move at their own pace and honor their bodies. We hope you’ll be patient and compassionate with yourself as you explore the practice of yoga. We encourage you to try several classes and instructors to find the ones you feel a personal connection with.

Our beautiful studio space is located in the heart of downtown Valparaiso, Indiana on Franklin Street.  We have a private parking lot in front of the studio. Catch Kristin’s Vinyasa class on Wednesdays 7:30-8:30 am, Hatha class on Wednesdays 9:00-10:15 and Modified Ashtanga Primary Series Thursdays 9:00-10:15 am.

Kristin believes that we all share a common goal of seeking joy. She shares her passion for yoga as a tool to access that joy on and off the mat by shedding obstacles physically and mentally, opening new explorations in the mind and body, and deepening your connection to yourself.

She began practicing yoga while in law school in Chicago as a way to reduce stress. Her practice evolved over many years as she married and became a mother to 5 boys. In 2015 Kristin’s practice transformed her in a new way that affected her whole existence. She decided by 2017 to study with Catherine Ashton to complete her 200 hour YTT. Kristin has also studied yoga to transform trauma, children’s yoga, and many inversion techniques. She is currently studying with Amy Beth Treciokas from YogaNow to complete 500 hours of yoga teacher training.

Kristin’s teaching draws from every teacher and learning experience she has had in life, in love, and in yoga. Her love of music inspires playlists of music that are carefully curated to enhance your yoga experience.You can expect her classes to carry a theme ranging from physical alignment, chakras, emotional experiences, lunar cycles, and everything in between including a dash of the unexpected. The trick is to surrender to the flow.

Katie Hawks, Program Director

Catch Katie’s All Levels Vinyasa Yoga + Meditation on Thursdays 6-7:20 pm and Saturdays 9-10:20 am.

Katie is a yoga therapist, yoga instructor, reiki practitioner, massage therapist, the program director for Ohm Yoga Studio, and the lead faculty member for our 200 hour teacher training program. She first came to yoga after experiencing chronic low back pain and anxiety during college, and she quickly discovered how deeply healing this practice was for her in body, mind, heart and spirit. Yoga provided so many benefits on her own healing journey through lyme disease and autoimmune issues, and it helped her to transform trauma. She is tremendously grateful for her teachers and this practice. She considers herself a lifelong student of yoga, and has dedicated her life’s work to serving others on their path to healing and feels that this is her life’s purpose!

She believes that each of us are born with tremendous self-healing potential, and that healing comes from within. Therefore, she creates a safe and sacred environment for students to explore and discover their body, breath, mind, emotions and a connection with themselves and what lies in their own heart. She also believes that yoga is for everyone and has the power to transform health and lives, one breath at a time, inviting us ultimately to return home to and remember who we are. In her public yoga classes, expect mindful movement, breath work, mudras, chanting, guided meditation and relaxation all set to a beautifully created playlist of healing music. 

Katie is the owner and founder of Sangha Center for Wellness, LLC in Valparaiso, IN. She completed her 200 Hour Hatha Yoga Teacher Training at Reflections Yoga Center in Homewood, IL, her 500 Hour Advanced Teacher Training at Moksha Yoga Center in Chicago, IL. and her 800 Hour Yoga Therapy Training through Inner Peace Yoga Therapy in Durango, CO. She is a certified Trauma Informed Yoga Instructor.

Catch Erin’s at her Vinyasa class on Fridays 9:00-10:15am.

Erin has been practicing yoga for years with her loved ones, but didn’t realize how much it meant to her until 2020. With the world changing in frightening ways around her, Erin used yoga to draw in and find inner peace and it was the best decision of her life! Once things began re-opening to the public, Erin jumped at the chance to get into her first teacher training and found her home at Ohm. Through yoga Erin has been very drawn to the idea of self-study, believing that if you can understand yourself, you can understand and have more compassion for the world around you ~

She aims to carefully make each class a sacred space for you to draw in and notice yourself with kindness, and then to spread that light☀️

Ashely Baugh

Catch Ashely’s Aerial Yoga class on Wednesdays 5:30-6:45 pm, Yin Class on Wednesdays 7:30-8:45 pm, her Aerial Sequencing Yoga on Thursdays 11-12:15pm, or her Awaken Slow Flow class on Fridays 6-7:15 pm.

Ashely is a 200 Hr Yoga Alliance certified Vinyasa and Hatha yoga teacher. She completed her training through Ohm Yoga Studio in May 2021. Ashely believes that Yoga helped her save her own life, and believes in the power yoga carries to help others. Her mission is to bring yoga to everyone with a special place in her heart for children and the elderly.

In her classes, expect a playful approach that nurtures your inner child and the ability to grow within your practice.

She is an aerial enthusiast and is certified to teach aerial Yoga. Ashely is the mother of a beautiful little girl named Rosalie. She loves to spend time with her daughter in nature. Ashely plans to always continue to learn with her yoga practice. She is a Bhakti at heart and plans to become a Bhakti teacher as well as complete trainings for Children and Elderly Yoga.

Brittany Buzea

Brittany fell in love with the pure dichotomy of the yoga practice: the stark contrast between the strength and power compared to the grace and surrender.

She completed a 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training in January of 2018 with Yoga Mecca and attends workshops as much as she can. Her passion for deepening her own yoga practice as well as continuing her education has given her incredible opportunities to learn in-person from many world-renowned yoga teachers.

Brittany believes in inspiring people to find a deeper connection in themselves and gratitude for life. She encourages her students to honor their own authenticity allowing them to feel more present, confident, and free. With an emphasis on exploration and breath awareness, her classes are designed to push students to their edge, moving beyond the barriers of the mind, where they can truly tap into something so much greater than their expectations.

When not in the studio, you can find her on the trails with her dog, Fiona, attending sporting events, or traveling to far ends of the globe with her mat in hand.

Brittany also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations and an MBA in Healthcare Administration.

Kya Dyer

Catch Kya’s Yin-Style Aerial Yoga on Fridys 4-5:15pm

Kya is a 200 hr Yoga Alliance Vinyasa and Hatha teacher. Kya started her movement journey with studying physical therapy and practicing martial arts. She was drawn to yoga as a way to practice gentle movement.

 Kya brings her love for manual therapy, collaborating, and art to the mat to guide others in self healing.

 In her classes expect flowing series of movements to challenge the body and long stretches to integrate the practice.

 Outside of yoga, she enjoys art, reading and spending time with loved ones. Her intention at Ohm is to collaborate with the community and use multiple disciplines in harmony.

 

Nicolette Falk

Catch Nicolette’s Hot Vinyasa class on Mondays 9-10:20am

Nicolette has a profound love for her lifes work. She feels it's an honor to be able to guide students through their yogic journey. Approaching and seeing each individual with an open mind and heart, ready to hold space for them.

Her path since birth has been interwoven with experience, strength, hope and good music. She is a free spirit who has traveled cross country in her RV for several years, touching many souls wherever she went. She discovered yoga along the way. Something divine called her back to her mat time and time again. She had fun challenging herself with the physical practice while also feeling deeply connected to the way yoga made her feel inside.

After she had her 2 beautiful children she rooted down in NWI but felt lost in the sea of post partum, longing to connect with herself in a deeper and greater way again...

Intuitively guided to Ohm Studio, she developed a dedicated and ritualistic practice. She craved a higher knowledge and deeper understanding of how to help others heal and expand with the power of their mind, breath, and body. Nicolette graduated from Ohm Studios Yoga Teacher Training program with a RYT 200hr and is Yoga Alliance Certified. She is also Trauma-Informed and Certified in Aerial yoga! Even though she is now labeled a teacher, she is passionate about continued education and feels she will always be a student to the practices of yoga.

Stephanie Frailey

Catch Stephanie’s Hot Vinyasa class on Tuesdays 9-10:15 am

Stephanie began her yoga journey after she became pregnant with her son in 2007. The breath work, physical postures and meditation aspect of the practice helped her achieve a very healthy pregnancy without nausea. Given she and her husband’s decision to have a child later in life, inherently the pregnancy had more risk factors. Yoga became the tool to guide her through pregnancy, delivery, and first time motherhood. As a result her positive experience practicing pre-natal yoga and then vinyasa after childbirth, she decided to delve deeper into the practice and take her studies off the mat and into teacher training. Stephanie Frailey received her 200 hour certification in 2011. The certification program focused both on Ashtanga and Vinyasa flows. Stephanie has learned from a myriad of teachers in the US and abroad. She has participated in several workshops for continued learning, with David Swanson, and Mark Stephens to name a couple. She taught for several studios in the Columbus Ohio area and also a local school system and a private college; New Albany School District and Denison University. Stephanie's favorite quote: "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." -Maya Angelou

Catch Kathryn’s QiGong class Fridays 11 am - 12:15 pm or Mondays 1 - 2:15 pm.

I have been teaching Spring Forest Qigong for twelve years now, and I still am amazed how fortunate I am to get to do this. This practice has done so much to improve the quality of my life on every level; body, mind and spirit and continues to change and grow with me all of the time.

I love teaching Qigong at Ohm and feel like Qigong and yoga are such a nice fit. The studio and all of people there are so welcoming, open, and dedicated to creating a more loving beautiful world.

In my Qigong class, most weeks we will practice the Five Elements Healing Movements of Spring Forest Qigong. These are slow, simple meditative movements designed to unblock and transform any stuck or blocked energy in your body to help you to heal. Each movement is accompanied by a suggested positive emotion to powerfully cultivate the messages of happiness, joy, peacefulness, groundedness, contentment and gratitude into the cells of your body.

The movements are easily modified to meet you at any level of health and can be done standing sitting, or lying down. That is one of the things I love most about this practice; if you are breathing, you can do this. Anytime you are unable to do an exercise (or a portion of it) physically, you can just use the power of your mind and your visualization to do the exercise and that will be perfect. If you believe it, it works. If you don't believe it, it still works. I love that.

I also share either a short guided healing meditation or acupressure techniques in the class so it is chock full of healing and empowerment.

I am looking forward to digging in to the possibilities for healing, joy and happiness with this beautiful Ohm community in the upcoming year.

Heather Irene

Catch Heather’s Hot Vinyasa on Tuesdays 5:30 - 6:45 pm, her Soul Flow Vinyasa on Sundays 9 - 10:15 am, or her Beginners Yoga on Sundays 11-12:15pm

Heather Irene is a public school teacher, artist, musician, activist, and storyteller. She is RYT 350 hour certified through her beloved Yoga center, Laughing Lotus, in New York City. Heather Irene came to Yoga as a way to heal from the physical pain she experienced as a result of scoliosis. Her unique classes are vibrant and rigorous, yet inclusive and carefully crafted to take care of all bodies. Heather Irene's teaching style is deeply inspired by the exploration of our metaphysical nature, Bhakti (the path of Love), the dance between flow and structured alignment, carefully curated music, mantra, and Yogic philosophy.

Kristina Jillson

Catch Kristina at her Hot Vinyasa on Mondays 6-7:15pm

Kristina found yoga at a drop-in class in Chicago in 2009. She spent the next few years searching to find that feeling she experienced on the mat in various locations until she found a vinyasa studio in NWI in 2012 and began a daily practice. Yoga has helped Kristina overcome daily back pain, recover from a back surgery, and maintain a healthy and fit pregnancy.

A teacher by trade, Kristina felt called to complete her 200-hour teacher training and did so in the spring of 2014 under Catherine Ashton. Kristina loves to share the yoga practice with others. She has taught in studios, in parks, gyms and backyards; and has experience teaching children, adults, and seniors.

As a teacher, Kristina believes that we all should be perpetual students. She has taken workshops and trainings with Seane Corn, Jason Crandall, Alexandria Crow, Desiree Rumbaugh, and Kathryn Budig. Kristina seeks out a challenging vinyasa practice and this inspires her teaching style. She loves to fit asana together with creative transitions while being mindful of the structure of a traditional vinyasa-style class. 

Mary Lebio

Catch Mary’s Gentle Yoga class on Mondays at 4-5pm

Mary is proud to be a Valpo girl all her life, happily married with 2 adult sons, 2 amazing daughter in laws,and 3 beautiful grandchildren, and in her words, "blessed". After almost 50 years working in the dental world she retired in 2019 to kick back, enjoy and see where life was going to take her next. Inspired by her personal trainer and yoga teacher she found strength and flexibility on her yoga mat that helped with her back and hip issues. As her physical issues responded to her practice she found she wanted to delve deeper into her practice for the mental and spiritual benefits as well. So in 2022 she enrolled in yoga teacher training at Ohm Studio. She feels it was one of the best things she ever did for JUST her. It was a goal and a challenge, an experience that opened her mind, heart and spirit that has brought deeper meaning to her practice on and off the mat. After completing training, she now feels inspired to continue her journey by giving back thru teaching, sharing her love for time on the mat, the joy of self growth and the spirit of community to others.

I am looking forward to digging in to the possibilities for healing, joy and happiness with this beautiful Ohm community in the upcoming year.

Manuela Bassetti

Catch Manuela’s All Levels Hatha/Vinyasa Mix on Tuesdays 11am - 12pm, or her Dance Yoga class on Fridays 7:30 - 8:30am

I started practicing yoga 6 years ago, while still living in Brazil; the strength, balance, flexibility and focus of yoga had me hooked instantly. I’ve always loved to move my body through dance, but now it shares shares space with yoga in my heart. In 2022 I decided to dive deeper into the yoga world, joined the yoga teacher training at Ohm Studio, and became a certified RYT 200. The asanas, yoga philosophy, mantras, pranayama, subtle body, meditation, had opened my eyes and my mind, and completed a puzzle in my life.

Twenty-three years ago I graduated Medical School, and working as a doctor for almost 20 years, treating diseases and prescribing medicine wasn’t what I felt a calling for, since I always believed prevention is better than treatment. Besides teaching yoga, I’m a Level II Reiki practitioner.

Since the practice of yoga integrates body, mind and spirit, this is the best way for me to practice healing with myself, and now with others. During my classes I like to focus on alignment, repetition, body awareness, breath, with a hint of dance movements, creativity and Brazilian music. You will be able to feel the connection between your physical and subtle body, as well a sense of clear and relaxed mind.

Jan Green

Catch Jan at her Restorative Yoga on Tuesdays 7:15 - 8:15pm, or at her Zoom Chair/Mat Yoga on Wednesdays 5:30 - 6:30pm

Jan is a 200 CRYT , Certified in Restorative yoga, Certified Reiki I & II, Certified in Pranayama, Certified in Trauma Yoga Informed, Certified in Mental Health First Aid Awareness (MHFA), and Certified in Ariel Yoga. Jan is passionate about bringing awareness to self-love and acceptance to one’s self on and off the mat and at the same time settling into each asana with the intuitive breath. Jan has been practicing yoga for almost 10 years. She started practicing yoga to ease her anxiety and depression. Jan will admit yoga saved her life.
Jan will continue to be committed to her daily yoga practice along side, the many yogi friends that she has encountered over the years. Jan has one goal - to lead others with her heart.

Gina Laureys

My yoga journey started about 3 years ago. As I continued practicing, I began to realize it was so much more than a workout class, and was healing me physically, mentally and emotionally. I wanted to dive deeper and learn more about all things yoga, and began looking into teacher training. I found Ohm, and was fortunate enough to be a part of their teacher training program. And am now a 200 Hr certified Vinyasa and Hatha yoga teacher.

I am so grateful to each and every person along my path that has led, inspired and guided me to this point. I hope to lead, inspire and guide classes in a way that will help others to heal and grow.

Laura Asher

Catch Laura’s Hot Vinyasa Yoga class on Mondays 7:30 - 8:30 am or on Thursdays 7:30 - 8:30 am

Laura has developed her personal practice over the last 4 years and teaches Vinyasa and Hatha Yoga. Fitness has always been important to Laura, her love for yoga blossomed as she discovered the connection this practice provides for mind, body and spirit. Yoga allows Laura the opportunity to turn off the busyness of her mind, travel inward through breath guided movement, and to be fully present in the moment. Laura believes experiencing wholeness is a right we can all claim and as she shares with an open heart, her passion to serve others shines. Angelic Spiritual Counselor & Coach, Reiki Practitioner, Energetic Practitioner, Registered Hypnotist, Shamanic Healer and Soul Retrieval Facilitator are just a few other ways Laura uses her gifts to help others.   Laura graduated from Sangha Yoga School in 2023 and is a 200hr Registered Yoga Teacher. Her style focuses on alignment, strength and stability, as well as ease and flow. Her Hatha and Warm Vinyasa classes are paired with a great playlist intended to soothe and inspire as she creates a safe space to explore body awareness through Guided Breathwork, Intentional Movement, and Meditation. She knows these tools are beneficial on and off the mat to balance the stresses of daily living and provide Physical, Mental and Emotional Healing. Laura considers it her greatest honor to Guide and Inspire others to shift into a state of Empowered Wholeness.

Tondra Patton

It has been said that the journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. My first step on my yogic journey was filled with a release of tears. Laying on my back in Savasana with tears streaming down my face, I knew that this journey was going to be special. For the first time in my life my mind was at peace. The more I traveled down this path I began to notice other benefits of my yoga practice. One of the most significant benefits was the relief of chronic back pain. It's been over a year since I have had a cortisone injection in my back to relieve the excruciating pain. Inspired by what yoga had done for me I took the next logical step in my journey and signed up for YTT and 200 hours later I am now taking the next step in my journey. I want to share what yoga has given me by helping others along their yogic path.

Rachel Gebhardt

Rachel is honored to be teaching yoga in our community. She is excited to share her knowledge and love for teaching & yoga to others along their own unique journeys.

Rachel has lived in Valparaiso her whole life. Rachel has a lifelong passion for teaching as a whole. At a young age, Rachel knew she wanted to be a teacher based on the relationships and impact her own teachers made in her life. She could not be who she is today, without them being on her path. Rachel graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and is a first grade teacher in Valparaiso. Rachel finds immense joy and responsibility in helping shape the minds of her students, and watching their growth unfold daily. She knows her purpose is to share knowledge and guide others both inside the classroom and in yoga studios.

Rachel knew after finding yoga, that she had an immediate drive to teach and share the practice with others. Rachel graduated from Ohm Yoga Studio and is a RYT-200. Rachel found strength and peace within her own yogic journey. When she found yoga, it was like a missing piece of a puzzle that finally fell into place. She continues to be a life-long student of yoga!

Rachel is excited to continue her passion for teaching, share space with members of the community, and be a part of her students individual yogic journeys. She hopes each student leaves her classes feeling strong, served, and ready to shine their unique light to the world! ☀️
